At the time, Cahners Publishing was the largest business publisher in the country with over 125 business-to-business magazines targeting manufacturing, entertainment and food service.

Funded by an internal investment of $11M from parent company Reed Elsevier, Cahners Electronic Media Group embarked on building a manufacturing-oriented portal to aggregate content and audience, and generate new revenue opportunities for Cahners. Twenty-five publications were tapped to participate, with individual web sites created for each publication and additional directory content being provided to an overall Buyer’s Guide.
